Belfast International Airport is located about 23km, or 13.2 miles west of Belfast city, in Northern Ireland. It is particularly nearby the areas of Aldergrove, Crumlin, Nutt’s Corner and Antrim, and is therefore commonly referred to as the Aldergrove Airport. It is also about the same distance from Newtownabby as it is from Belfast. The airport can be recognised by its official code of BFS. The options for transport from the airport include buses and taxis, and arriving passengers can also hire a car from a company such as Alamo Belfast International Airport. Alamo is an excellent choice of car rental company for leisure travellers, and offers competitive car hire rates.
The history of the car rental company of Alamo began in 1974, with four locations in Florida. They pioneered the concept of unlimited free mileage and quickly carved their niche in the leisure car rental industry. Since that Alamo proved to provide a fun, low-cost, high-value rental experience for their customers, they quickly grew to many more rental locations, all around the world. Alamo is part of a global strategic alliance with Europcar, and together, these two companies form the largest car rental network in the world. Alamo is also the car rental company to have revolutionised collision damage waivers with the introduction of the first-ever price and coverage option for all renters, and was the first company to offer real-time booking capabilities over the internet, in 1995.
One of the benefits of renting a car from Alamo, is their Quicksilver membership, available for both occasional and more frequent renters. This membership makes renting easier and less expensive, and allows customers to enjoy a simplified reservation and rental process. They are also able to skip the rental counters by using the self-service kiosks available at many of the Alamo rental locations. Quicksilver members receive special deals and discounts as well. Enrolments for the membership can be made online, from the official website of Alamo.
At Belfast International Airport, car rental company like Alamo are found in the single terminal building, and in the domestic arrival hall on the ground floor. Departure proceedings are handled from the upper level of the building, while all arrival facilities are located on the ground floor. Alamo’s hours of operation at this airport are from 07:30 to 23:00, every day of the week. These hours correspond well to the majority of the arrival flights of the airport, and passengers can either have an advanced reservation (which is recommended), or can hire their car directly over the rental counters. An earlier booking will often secure the lowest rental rates, and will give you peace of mind in knowing that your ideal car is ready and waiting for your arrival. It is also advisable to hire child seats, satellite navigation systems and luggage racks in advance, and Alamo hand controls for disabled drivers will require an advanced reservation. From the rental location of Belfast International Airport, hand controls are used by person with a lower limb disability, and are free of charge.
Vehicles from Alamo, and from the other Belfast International Airport car hire companies, such as Hertz, National, Europcar, Sixt, Avis and Budget, are divided into a wide variety of car groups, each with their own selection of high quality vehicles. Some are smaller, like the Hyundai 1.0 in the Mini category and the Vauxhall Corsa in the Economy category, while others are able to accommodate larger numbers of passengers, for example, the Vauxhall Zafira 1.8 and the VW Sharan 2.0, which are six and seven passenger Minivans. Larger sedans suitable for families include the Skoda Octavia 1.6, Ford Mondeo 2.0 and the Saab 9-5 2.0, while Premium vehicles are similar to the Mercedes C Class 2.0 and Mercedes C Class Estate 2.0. Other popular choices for leisure customers are wagon vehicles similar to the Ford Mondeo Estate 1.8 and Vauxhall Astra Estate 1.7.
Many of Alamo’s vehicles come with features such as air conditioning, driver and passenger airbags, central locking, electric front windows and power steering. Some may even include a tilt steering wheel, cruise control and leather interiors. Most of the vehicles hired in the United Kingdom, and at Belfast International Airport, have manual transmissions, but there are a few models which are automatic. Automatic vehicles should be reserved early to ensure their availability. Most vehicles available for hire can be driven to all parts of Northern Ireland and in the Republic of Ireland, and can be arranged as Alamo one way hires. This means that the vehicle can be delivered to a different rental location, and need not be driven back to Belfast International Airport. One way hire costs should be confirmed with Alamo.
Alamo customers will need to be 21 years of age, and must show a valid drivers license from their home country upon collection of the vehicle. In some cases, an International Driving Permit will need to accompany the local license. Car renters will also need a major credit card, for example, American Express, Diners Club, Eurocard, Mastercard or Visa. Keep in mind that young driver fees will be applicable to anyone under the age of 25.
