Avis Belfast International Airport Airport
Belfast International Airport is a large airport in the United Kingdom, currently serving around four million passengers per annum, but has in previous years even managed up to six million passengers. It is recognised by its airport code of BFS, and was formerly known as the Aldergrove Airport. Due to it’s large number of passengers, it is ranked as the thirteenth busiest airport in the UK, and the second largest airport in Ireland, just behind Dublin Airport. Facilities for arriving passengers include the Belfast International Airport car hire companies, such as Avis Car Rental. Avis is a worldwide car hire company, found at most airports in Europe and around the world. They offer their customers some of the best car hire rates.
The Belfast International Airport is found approximately 23km, or 13.2 miles west of Belfast city, and is a hub for the airline carrier of Aer Lingus. Other airline companies present include Thomas Cook Airlines, Thomson Airways, Easyjet, Air Australia and Jet2.com, and they fly to and from destinations such as London, Rome, Paris, Barcelona and Amsterdam. Passengers will arrive on the ground floor of the single terminal building, and will find the Belfast International Airport car rental companies in the domestic arrival hall. At this rental location, Avis is open from 07:00 to 23:00 during the week, on Saturdays from 07:30 to 19:30 and on Sundays from 07:30 to 23:00. These hours are convenient for the meeting of arrival flights and their passengers.
The primary renter and additional drivers at Avis Belfast International Airport will require a driving license that has been acquired in the European Union, otherwise, an International Driving Permit will be requested by Avis. The exceptions to this rule are persons with licenses issued in the United States of America, Canada, Australia or New Zealand. An IDP is acquired from your home country, before your departure flight to Ireland. Applicable to all drivers, the local driving license should have been held for at least a year prior to the rental date. Avis requires their renters to meet the minimum age requirement of 23, and a young drivers surcharge will be applicable to any driver under the age of 25. This fee is around eleven Euro per underage driver, and per day of car hire.
It is wise to arrange adequate insurance for your rented car from Avis, even though the insurances available are optional. Theft protection and collision damage waiver insurances are popular choices, and can be arranged locally from Avis in order to reduce or even remove the insurance excess. Further details are available from the Avis rental desk in the airport terminal. A major credit card will be required to pay for your rented car, as all debit cards are not accepted. The credit cards which can be used include Avis Charge Cards, American Express, Air Travel/UATP, Diners Club/Amoco Torch, Mastercard/Access/Eurocard or Visa.
Once the rental contract with Avis has expired, customers will be expected to return their vehicle back to the airport, either with a full or empty tank of fuel. If fuel was purchased upfront, which is usually the case for longer rentals, the customer may return the vehicle as empty as possible, as no refunds are given for unused fuel. However, if no fuel was purchased, the vehicle should be returned with a full tank, as it was received. For additional charges, Avis may re-fuel the vehicle on your behalf even if no fuel was purchased upon collection from Belfast International Airport. One way hire services from Avis enable customers to return their car to another rental location, and is convenient for anyone who is leaving the country from a different airport. Avis one way hires can usually be driven into the Republic of Ireland. Charges for the one way hire will be included in your quote, if the option is selected when making the reservation.
Avis’ vehicles can be fitted with certain items of equipment to facilitate your journey in Ireland, for example, child seats for young children, satellite navigation systems, luggage racks and hand controls for disabled drivers. Avis hand controls are only used on automatic vehicles, and operate the brake and the accelerator pedals. The device is therefore used by persons with a lower limb disability. From the rental location of Belfast International Airport, hand control equipment is free of charge, but may require an advanced booking, at least forty-eight hours prior to your arrival. In Ireland, a child seat is required by law for children three years of age or younger, and everyone else in the vehicle should wear a seatbelt as well. Obey the road rules of Ireland, and stay within the speed limits.
Vehicles from Avis, Belfast International Airport, are divided into vehicle categories such as Small, Economy, Compact, Medium, Intermediate, Standard, Large, Luxury and Standard Van. Customers will choose one of these categories, rather than a vehicle by its specific make and model. Vehicles received will be similar to the example cars shown on Avis’ website. Small cars could be similar to the Peugeot 107 and Peugeot 207, while Economy cars include the Vauxhall Meriva and Peugeot 308. Small cars are ideal for city driving, but will also handle longer trips as well. Larger cars from Avis include the Vauxhall Insignia, VW Passat 2.0, VW Station Wagon and the Citroen Grand C4 Picasso, which is a Luxury SUV with room for seven passengers. The Peugeot 5008 and Renault Grand Scenic are capable of accommodating seven people as well.
